About Claire

I first came across Pilates many years ago when looking for ways of keeping my body strong and flexible to enhance the various life opportunities we encounter in sport, leisure pursuits and simply wellbeing.
Pilates attracted me especially because of its origins and popularity with dancers and sportspeople in general.
When first starting to learn the beautiful dance Argentine tango, in 2007, one of our dance teachers suggested then that if you wanted to progress swiftly then to look after your body via pilates classes could significantly help with this challenge.
So I took note and started classes and have never looked back. Whatever happens in life, the good times and the bad, practising pilates virtually always come to the rescue.
Wellness has always occupied a big part of my life as it has also for my family too, so as to be able to enjoy regular activities including hill walking, running, swimming, horse riding, sailing, cycling and dancing.
Life really is a dance, a rhythm of ups and downs with endless twists and turns , and over the years I have appreciated just how valuable practising pilates can be in helping us to navigate life’s challenges .
It has been acknowledged for years now that simply movement can not only lift our mood but really does help us live life to the full. Pilates is based on a repertoire of exercises that aims to move the body in a flowing and mindful way, improving flexibility of the spine, alignment and posture.
My aim with my pilates classes is to help others really enjoy life, be active and strong. Whatever your leisure pursuits, pilates can play an active and supporting role.
I trained with the Body Control Pilates Centre in London, having carefully researched various schools and options, and I am proud that Body Control Pilates is one of the most respected schools, being one of the largest professional Pilates organisations in the world.
Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective – and medically-approved. It is of a holistic nature, being based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is ‘awareness of your own body’ and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles:
Relaxation
Concentration
Co-ordination
Centring
Alignment
Breathing
Stamina
Flowing Movements
Joseph Pilates, the pioneer of this remarkable system, was born in 1880 near Düsseldorf, Germany, but during his childhood suffered from debilitating conditions including rickets, rheumatic fever and asthma, but was a determined boy who survived against the odds, taking responsibility for improving his own strength and health through physical activities. Taking elements from multi disciplines, including martial arts, yoga, gymnastics, circus training, weight training, skiing, self-defence and dancing, his own system was based on aspects of all these things, to try to create an all round ideal balance of strength and flexibility.
What I love most about Joseph Pilates’ method is it is centred all around, health, fitness and happiness. Hence my own pilates class Is hopefully aptly called LIVE DANCE PILATES.
In my classes I aim to help people learn ways of enhancing their everyday movement, become aware of the modern day stresses on the body and posture, and most importantly to live life well.
I teach in corporate settings, in group classes and 1-1’s.
Constantly looking at improvement and embracing further medical and physiological knowledge ..
Keep moving, Keep living and love being you.
Hope to meet you soon in one of my classes.
